For physicians, specialists and multi-provider clinics that want more booked appointments

SEO for doctors: be the practice patients trust online.

Patients now check you in several ways before they book: the map, your reviews, who the doctor is, and whether your website explains their problem in plain language. Medical SEO earns all of these. It is held to a higher standard than most fields, because Google treats health information as something that can change a person's life.

Before a patient books, they check four things

Does your practice pass?

The map"family doctor near me"

Are you in the top 3, open, with a working phone?

The reviews4.7 from 212 patients

Recent, replied to, and about real visits.

The doctorname, training, photo

Can they see who will treat them?

The answer"what to expect"

Does your page explain their problem in plain words?

In 30 seconds
  • What: your practice, every provider and the conditions you treat, found and trusted.
  • Higher bar: Google's raters treat health as Your Money or Your Life, so named clinicians matter.
  • Effect: Maps and doctor-name searches move first. Condition pages take 6 to 12 months.
  • Cost: from $799 a month. Clinics with several locations usually need $1,999.

In one paragraph

What is medical SEO?

Medical SEO is the work of making a doctor's practice the one patients find, trust and book when they search for a symptom, a condition, a specialist or a clinic nearby. It covers the practice's Google profiles, a page for each provider, pages for the conditions and treatments you handle, healthcare directories, reviews and site health. Because health topics can affect people's wellbeing, Google looks for clear evidence of who wrote the content and why they are qualified.

Where patients see you

A clinic two miles away can own your neighborhood.

Primary care, urgent care and many specialists win on distance first. Each location needs its own profile and its own page to compete.

What makes a condition page work

Written for the patient. Signed by the doctor.

A good condition page explains symptoms in plain words, says when someone should be seen, describes what happens at the visit, and lists the treatments you actually offer. It ends with a clear way to book.

It also shows who stands behind it: the clinician who wrote or reviewed it, their credentials, and the date. Google's quality raters are told to look for exactly this on health topics, and patients look for it too.

Keep these pages local and specific. A national health site will always out-rank you on what is diabetes. You can win diabetes care in your town, with a named doctor who sees patients there.

Medical SEO services, included

From the map to the exam room door.

Practice and location profiles

A verified Google profile for each clinic, with the right category, services, hours and booking link.

Provider pages and profiles

A page for every doctor with training and certification, and practitioner listings where Google allows them.

Condition and treatment pages

Plain-language pages for what you treat, written with or reviewed by your clinicians, with their names shown.

Healthcare directories

Healthgrades, WebMD Care, Vitals and insurer directories, checked and corrected.

Reviews within privacy rules

Steady review requests and replies that never touch a patient's care.

Technical and schema

Speed, secure forms, and Physician and MedicalClinic markup so Google reads your pages correctly.

How it works

Trust first. Reach second.

  1. Audit trust and visibility

Profiles, directories, provider pages and current rankings for each location.

  2. Fix the foundations

Profiles verified and complete, directory errors listed, and provider pages built.

  3. Agree a review process

Which clinician checks which pages, and how fast, so content does not stall.

  4. Publish condition pages

The services that matter most to the practice first, each one approved before it goes live.

  5. Report appointments

Calls, booking requests and rankings per location, each month.

The effect

What to expect, month by month.

Weeks 1 to 4

Profiles and listings corrected. Patients stop meeting wrong phone numbers and closed hours.

Months 2 to 3

Better map visibility near each clinic, and more searches for your doctors by name.

Months 4 to 8

Condition pages begin to rank for local searches, such as a specialist plus your town.

Months 8 to 12

Broader topics and more locations, helped by links from hospitals, associations and local press.

Limit

Content stalls if no clinician has time to review it. Agree that time before we start.

Why, and why not

Who needs medical SEO, and who does not.

You need this if

  • You take new patients and want more of a certain kind, such as a specialty service.
  • You are opening a new location.
  • Patients tell you they found a competitor first.
  • Your website has no named doctors or condition pages.

You do not need this if

  • Your panel is closed and you have a waiting list.
  • You only see patients by referral from other doctors.
  • No clinician can spare an hour a month to review content.
  • Your hospital system controls the website and will not change it.
Rules that apply to doctors

Where medical marketing goes wrong.

Health content with no clinician behind it

Pages with no named reviewer are weaker for Google and riskier for you.

Patient details in review replies

HHS has fined providers for this. Do not even confirm that the person was seen.

Tracking code on portals and forms

Federal guidance on tracking was narrowed by a court in 2024, but state laws still apply. Check before installing ad pixels.

Testimonials that imply guaranteed results

Endorsements must not mislead people about typical outcomes.

Copied condition text

Rewritten text from big health sites adds nothing they do not already rank for.

Real results

Medical clients stay confidential. Shared results below.

Client confidentiality

Practices that trust me with their marketing expect discretion, and health data rules make that stricter than in most fields. So medical clients' names and analytics never appear on this site. The cases below come from businesses happy to be shown, including a medical clothing store, which is a store rather than a practice.

Questions doctors ask

Medical SEO FAQ.

What is the difference between medical SEO and healthcare SEO?
Mostly the name. Medical SEO usually means doctors' practices and clinics. Healthcare SEO is often used for hospitals, health brands and larger groups too. The work is the same: local visibility, accurate content with named clinicians, and trust.
How long does SEO take for a medical practice?
Profile and review work often shows within 60 to 90 days near your clinic. Condition and treatment pages usually take 6 to 12 months to rank well, longer in big cities or for broad topics.
Can AI write medical content for my website?
AI can help draft, but it should never be the last word on health information. Every page I publish is checked and approved by one of your clinicians, with their name and the review date on the page.
Should each doctor have their own Google profile?
In a practice with several doctors, Google allows separate profiles for individual practitioners who see the public. That can help people find a named doctor. A solo doctor usually needs one profile that covers both the practice and the doctor.
Is SEO work HIPAA compliant?
SEO itself does not need patient data, and I never ask for it. The risks sit in forms, chat tools, tracking code and review replies. I check those, and your compliance lead signs off anything that touches patient information.
Do Healthgrades and Zocdoc help my Google rankings?
They help Google and patients confirm your details, and they often rank on their own for doctor searches. Keep every listing accurate. Zocdoc is a paid booking service, so it is a business choice, not an SEO requirement.

“When I look at medical websites, the most common gap is not technical. It is a page about a condition with no name on it. Put your doctors' names, training and faces on your content. It is the easiest trust signal you have.”
