For general, family and cosmetic dental practices that want new patients, not just traffic

SEO for dentists that fills the new-patient schedule.

When a tooth cracks at 9 pm, nobody scrolls to page two. They pick one of the three practices on the map, check the stars and call. Dental SEO is the work of being one of those three, and of having a page that answers the question behind the search: implants, Invisalign, emergency visits, insurance.

Who gets this call?

In 30 seconds
  • What: Google Maps, a page per treatment, reviews and a fast, trusted site.
  • Effect: first Maps gains in 60 to 90 days. Treatment pages build over 6 to 12 months.
  • Rule: never confirm a patient in a review reply. Dentists have been fined for it.

In one paragraph

What is SEO for dentists?

SEO for dentists is the work of getting a dental practice found on Google Maps and in search results when nearby people look for a dentist or a treatment. It covers your Google Business Profile, reviews, a page for each treatment you want more of, local listings and links, and a site that loads fast on a phone. Done well, it brings patients who are already looking for you, and they keep coming without a fee for every click.

What is one new patient really worth to you?

Most practices judge SEO by the first visit. A patient who stays for years, and sends their family, is worth far more. Put in your own numbers.

Lifetime value of one new patient
$0

One month of new patients, over the years they stay
A full year of the Growth plan$9,588

This is revenue, not profit. Take the numbers from your practice software, not from a blog. Referrals count one level only.

Dental local SEO, measured properly

Your rank changes every couple of miles.

A patient two miles away may see a different top 3 than one standing outside your door. So I track the map from dozens of points, not one.

Dental SEO services, treatment by treatment

One page for each treatment you want more of.

Invisalign and clear alignersinvisalign cost, invisalign near meCost, how long it takes, aligners or braces, what happens at the first visit
Emergency dentistemergency dentist, tooth pain at nightWhen you are open, what counts as an emergency, what to do until you arrive

Family and childrenfamily dentist, kids dentistAges you see, the first visit, how you help nervous children

A single services page that lists twelve treatments usually ranks for none of them. Pick the treatments that matter to your practice, and give each one a real page.

Why dental search is crowded

Every street has a dentist. Google has to choose three.

Most towns have more dental practices than the three spots on the map. Google picks by how close you are, how relevant your profile looks for that search, and how well known you are, which includes reviews and links.

You cannot move your building, but you can control the other two. A complete profile, a page that matches the treatment, and a steady flow of fresh reviews often beat a bigger practice that has not touched its listing in years.

Corporate dental groups have big budgets but often thin, copied pages for each office. A local practice with real photos, real names and honest answers can win against them on trust.

What dental SEO includes

Everything a new patient checks before they call.

Google Business Profile

Dentist as the main category, the right extra ones such as Emergency dental service, every treatment listed, real photos, and holiday hours that are correct.

A page per treatment

Implants, Invisalign, emergency visits, cosmetic work and children's care, each with cost, steps and who it suits.

Review system with safe replies

Every patient asked by text after the visit, and replies that never confirm someone is a patient.

Dental directories

Healthgrades, Zocdoc if you use it, Yelp, Apple and Bing, plus the directories of insurance networks you accept.

Fast, trusted site

Mobile speed, Dentist schema, a booking button that works, and team pages with real credentials.

Monthly report you can read

Calls, booking requests, Maps rank across your area and which treatment pages brought patients.

How it works

Map first. Then the pages.

  1. Check where you stand

Your Maps rank across your area, your reviews against the top 3, and which treatments competitors rank for.

  2. Fix the profile

Categories, services, photos, hours and booking link, so Google and patients see the full practice.

  3. Switch on reviews

A text after each visit with a direct link, and a reply plan your front desk can follow safely.

  4. Build treatment pages

Starting with the treatment that earns the most and has the weakest competition near you.

  5. Track calls, not just clicks

Call tracking and booking requests, so you can see which work brought patients.

The effect

What changes, and roughly when.

Weeks 1 to 4

Profile fixed, tracking installed, the first review requests sent. Patients see correct hours and a working booking link.

Months 2 to 3

Maps rank usually improves near the office first. Calls from the profile tend to rise before website traffic does.

Months 4 to 6

Treatment pages start ranking for longer searches, such as implant cost in your city.

Months 6 to 12

Broader searches and nearby suburbs. Reviews keep adding up in a way that new practices find hard to match.

Limit

SEO cannot fix a phone that rings out or a front desk that cannot quote a price. Those leak patients that the rankings brought in.

Why, and why not

Who needs dental SEO, and who does not.

You need this if

  • Your chairs have open time and you want new patients, not just recalls.
  • Competitors near you show up on the map and you do not.
  • You want more of one treatment, such as implants or aligners.
  • You are paying a lot for ads and want a channel that does not stop when the budget does.

You do not need this if

  • Your schedule is full for months. Fix capacity first.
  • You plan to sell or move the practice within a year.
  • You want results in two weeks. Use ads for that.
  • Your phones go unanswered at peak times. More calls will only show it.
Privacy and advertising rules

Shortcuts that can cost a dental practice dearly.

Confirming a patient in a review reply

OCR settled with Elite Dental Associates in Dallas for $10,000 in 2019 over Yelp replies, and New Vision Dental in California paid $23,000 in 2022. Reply in general terms only.

Before-and-after photos without written consent

Get a signed authorization for each patient's photos, and keep it on file.

Ad pixels on booking and patient pages

A 2024 court ruling narrowed federal guidance on tracking, but the rest of it and state laws still apply. Ask your compliance adviser first.

Discounts for reviews

Google does not allow incentives, and the FTC's 2024 rule bans fake reviews.

Claims you cannot prove

Words like pain-free or the best dentist in town can break your state board's advertising rules.

Copied treatment pages

Text lifted from a supplier or another practice helps nobody, and Google tends to ignore it.

Do it yourself or hire someone

Some of this you can do this week.

Dental SEO cost

One practice or several, priced openly.

SEO X-Ray
$499 one-time

Maps rank, reviews, treatment pages and competitors checked, with a plan you can run yourself.

⭐ Fits this serviceGrowth
$799/month

One practice: profile, reviews, citations, treatment pages and monthly tracking.

Premium Growth
$1,999/month

Up to 3 locations, with more pages, links and call tracking.

What changes the price

  • How many dentists compete within a few miles of you.
  • How many locations and treatments you want to grow.
  • Whether your site needs a rebuild. A slow, dated site adds work.
  • Ads, review software and photography are separate costs.

Questions dentists ask

Dental SEO FAQ.

How long does SEO take for a dental practice?
Fixes to your Google profile and reviews usually show on the map within 60 to 90 days, mostly close to your office. Treatment pages such as implants or Invisalign take longer, often 6 to 12 months in a busy city. A practice in a smaller town can move faster.
How much does dental SEO cost?
Agency prices vary a lot, so compare what is delivered each month rather than the headline price. My plans are $799 a month for one practice and $1,999 for up to three locations, after an optional $499 audit. Software, ads and photography are separate.
Is SEO better than Google Ads for dentists?
They do different jobs. Ads can bring calls tomorrow and stop the day you stop paying. SEO is slower, but the rankings and reviews keep working. Many practices run ads for high-value treatments such as implants while their pages climb, then spend less on ads.
Can a dentist reply to Google reviews under HIPAA?
Yes, but carefully. Never confirm that the reviewer is a patient and never mention treatment, dates or costs. Thank people in general terms, and invite anyone unhappy to call the office. HHS has fined dental practices for replies that gave away patient details.
Which pages should a dental website have?
A home page, a page for each treatment you want more of, an emergency page, a team page with real credentials, an insurance and payment page, and a page for each location. Each treatment page should answer cost, steps, recovery and who it suits.
Do reviews change where my practice ranks?
Google says reviews and ratings can help local ranking, and they clearly affect who gets the call. The number, the rating, how recent they are and your replies all count. A steady pace of honest reviews beats a one-off push.
